About Hindi:

Hindi is 1 of the official languages in India. It is also the most widely spoken languages in India as well as among Indians residing in other countries. Hindi has its origin mainly in Sanskrit but it also derives a major chunk of its vocabulary from Urdu, Arabic and of course English! Quite a few of my non-Indian students pointed out, English has blended so much with spoken Hindi, it seems as if it is an integral part of the language. Now, that’s an unfortunate thing for us Indians, especially since we attach so much importance to our culture; but it’s definitely fortunate for non-natives willing to learn the colloquial form of Hindi. So basically, if you don’t know a certain word in Hindi, just replace it with the English word!

About Devanagari script:

Hindi uses the Devanagari script for written texts. It might seem a daunting task to learn Devanagari. But believe me, once you get the knack of it, you will enjoy reading & writing in it. The reason is, in Devanagari what you read is what you write & vice versa. All the vowels & consonants are very well-defined & detailed. The only tedious task in writing Devanagari is the roof or line to be drawn above every word; believe me, when you have to write long essays, those roofs can bring you to your wit’s end!
